Thornberg Construction completed a full-house remodel in Sammamish, Washington, converting the entire home for ADA accessibility. The existing house had three different floor levels, separating the kitchen, living areas, and bedrooms by small steps throughout. Thornberg brought all three levels to one continuous height, removing those step-ups and step-downs so the home flows as a single level from room to room.
Door openings throughout the house were widened to allow easier passage from room to room. The primary bathroom was rebuilt around accessibility, with a walk-in soaking tub that has a low-entry door and grab bar, and a separate curbless, open-entry shower with its own grab bar, alongside a double-sink vanity and large windows that bring in natural light.
The remodel extended to every major system in the house: all-new electrical, all-new plumbing, and all-new mechanical systems throughout, replacing the home's original infrastructure from the ground up. Outside, Thornberg added a wraparound deck running from a kitchen-side door out to the backyard, extending the home's usable space into the yard and giving the property a direct, accessible connection between the kitchen and the outdoors.
The kitchen was fully rebuilt as well, with a waterfall-edge island, custom cabinetry, open shelving, a built-in wall oven, a gas range with a tile backsplash, and a farmhouse sink. A powder room finished with patterned wallpaper and an arched mirror, along with an entryway featuring a tray ceiling and a pendant chandelier, round out the finished spaces.
